Blog Assignment Number 1

Does anyone else love public writing? I do. To me, no writing is better than public writing. The thrill that I receive from seeing or hearing my writing in public is second to none. When I see my writing in public, I see my work, my thoughts, and my opinion being broadcast to everyone. What other kind of writing could be better? I mean, isn’t that the inherit point of writing? To put your thoughts and feelings down on paper and have others read it? If you ask me, there is not point to writing if no one reads it.

Now, when I write, and I know that others will read it, that makes writing exciting. If only one or two people are going to read it, thats not exciting. The bigger the audience the more exciting writing becomes. When there is an extremely big audience I try to make it creative, fun, and the best paper possible because I know that every single person will read it and critique it. I would say its the pressure that makes public writing exciting. It’s the pressure that other people will judge me off of how I write and how I think. This pressure makes me concentrate and focus on every word, every sentence, every page, and all the little things in between. Thats what makes it nerve-racking and exciting. Some people say it’s the ability to thrive under pressure, I just think its the ability to realize pressure, and enjoy it.

  1. Aaron,

So the tone that you have in this post really makes me laugh. I do think however, that you make some very legitimate points here. I never really thought about how the point of writing is to "to put your thoughts and feelings down on paper and have others read it." That makes perfect sense! Also, you wrote about how the pressure of public writing is what makes it exciting. I think you have a good point. I'm not going to lie, I love public writing too. I think it's really cool to receive feedback from people who have read things that you yourself have written. It's exciting to hear what people think of how or what you write. Especially when your audience is large and consists of people who are older than you. I personally like to get feedback from an adult because I feel that their opinion is extremely valuable considering that they have been around longer so they probably have more knowledge of certain topics. I am not saying that students our age aren't intelligent enough to give legitimate feedback. I'm just saying that sometimes an adult's opinion is more valued. Anyway, I think you did a great job on your first blog and I can't wait to read more!

  2. Working well under pressure is a sign of being head strong (I think). It's not something that I personally do well, but it's a very useful skill. Especially being able to do so in a public audience. Some people would crack under strain like that. To jump up on stage and announce your views to the world takes a lot of courage. However, if all you do is work under pressure you will eventually make mistakes. Sit back, relax, and take a minute to think calmly. Getting too excited and anxious can be a bad thing too. The show has only just begun, don't rush the first act.

All in all a good start. Let's see what the future brings.

  3. Dear Aaron,

I like how you said that you actually enjoy public writing. I understand and agree with you when you say that writing for a public audience keeps you on the edge of your seat and almost forces you to be precise and clear with every topic. It truly is a great way to test your writing skills becasue there are so many people out there who are more than willing to be brutally honest with you on what they think of your writing. This does in fact make it all the more worth while when you complete your piece of writing and people begin to compliment you on how well you wrote a blog or essay.

  4. I like the opinion that you bring to the table in post. I can only say that I argee with half of it however. Public writing is not necessarily my favorite type of writing and I don't exactly find it that exciting. However, I know where your coming from when you talked about working under pressure. I feel like I do my best work when I am under the gun. However, on the whole, I enjoyed reading your blog.

  5. Aaron,
Your blog is very personable. I feel like I know you better after reading your entry. You definitely like having the attention brought to your thoughts and writing, and that's an excellent quality to have. You're definitely different from a lot of people who typically buckle under pressure. I get the impression that you handle pressure well. You used a lot of rhetorical questions/answers. This made your entry engaging to read. Continue to do so. I enjoy public writing as well. I like to express my personality through it, and think you should be reading my blog next!
